Android S (12) is here with some cool features

Another year, another Android release. As you might expect, this year’s release will be called Android 12 since Google ditched its dessert naming scheme for Android 2 years ago.

While Google hasn’t officially confirmed its internally-decided dessert theme for Android 12. You can add your guess into a comment section regarding what dessert name can be used for Android 12 😀.

As of Thursday, the next version of Android has official begun its cycle, though it’s still in the earliest stage: the first Developer Preview build of Android 12 has arrived and it reveals much about the next major update to Google’s smartphone OS.

Frankly, there are too many new features to cover in a single post, but we’ll make some notable mentions here.

1. New Accent Color

With Android 12, the UI takes up a bluish tint visible in both light and dark themes. The light blue accent follows through the System UI within system apps, including Settings. The dialog boxes that show are also in this color.

2. Changed toggle UI in Settings

For category-wide controls, Android 12 is getting a bigger and more elaborate toggle at the top of the page that distinguishes it from other toggles below it.

3. One-handed mode

There’s a one-handed mode that’s not enabled just yet, but the feature seems to be on its way to the final version of Android 12. This one-handed mode is much like iOS’s reachability which briefly pulls the top of the screen halfway down so you can reach the UI.

4. Edit screenshots and add emojis into it

The screenshots editor is also receiving updates. You’ll now be able to add your own text and emoji stickers, aside from being able to write and highlight parts of the screenshot.

5. Notifications snooze

Snoozing notifications isn’t new on Android for other OEMs, but you’ll be able to do it now on stock Android 12. A snooze button within the notification will let you reset the notification to notify you at a later time.

6. Improvements in the picture in picture mode

Picture-in-picture resizing is now much easier. Rather than dragging a finger on the corner of the floating frame, you can pinch to resize the frame and the UI is more forgiving of where you drag-n-drop the frame.

7. Media controls

With Android 12, these media controls are getting more refined. Firstly, the media player occupies a slightly larger space than earlier with a bigger media artwork and just an icon for the device without its name. The new media player controls that were introduced with Android 11 will currently display all media apps that you recently used. A new menu will be implemented that lets you decide which apps will have permission to show media controls here.

8. Nearby share for Wi-Fi password

Android 12 makes password sharing easier. As we reported earlier, you can share Wi-Fi passwords using Nearby Share. This makes the process of connecting to a new Wi-Fi network very easy.

Google is making several refinements to its existing features rather than just pile on new features. We’re excited to see Android 12’s progress and see which changes stick all the way to the final public builds. Android 12 will likely debut with the Pixel 5’s successor sometime between Q3 and Q4 of this year.

Chances are you’re excited to try the new Developer Preview build, but we don’t recommend installing this on your primary device. This is more of a proof of concept and better reserved as an exploratory build for app developers to play with.

That's it for this blog. We will make you update with the new things coming in Android 12 in a timely manner :-)

Positive side of "Work From Home"

"Right state of mind is an extremely important trigger to support, sustain and scale up remote work or WFH." In this COVID-19 pandemic situation, companies all over the world allow their employees to work from home. Initially many employers were facing problems while giving employees access to all the tools they’d need to work from home. But after everyone settled in, what quickly became apparent to many office-based teams is that employees could be productive and focused when not in the office—in many cases, even more so. Employers everywhere began to understand that remote work really works. As this WFH is a part of our life now, I thought to start a series of WFH related blogs that might be helpful to other employees as well as the candidate who is going to be a part of corporate life. In this blog, I am going to tell you the positive side of working from home that I observed over the last 1.5 years. 1. Better Work-Life balance A lot of work that can be done remotely nowad...

What is Non-fungible token (NFT)?

Recently, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg rebranded the social giant as Meta Platforms Inc., underscoring the growing popularity of a promising phenomenon: the metaverse. This Metaverse concept has a connection with non-fungible tokens (NFTs), the very token we can use to represent ownership of unique items? Hence in this blog, we are going to understand first what is NFT and then in further blogs I am planning to cover Metaverse. What is an NFT? The acronym NFT means non-fungible token, which means a unique digital asset that cannot be modified or replaced with something else on the blockchain. Unlike Bitcoin, which is a fungible cryptocurrency, which can be traded for a predetermined value, like any other currency or money. An NFT is a unique token with no interchangeability with other tokens – much more like a piece of art. Those unique NFTs do not have a set standardized value. Instead, non-fungible tokens (again much like art) are based on the current market value. The ...

“AI is having a very busy year,” said Google CEO Sundar Pichai, kickstarting Google I/O 2023 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. Gmail with "Help me write" feature After features like Smart Reply and Smart Compose, Gmail is now getting a new feature called “help me write.” It is a simple feature that can help you save time and effort when composing emails. Say your flight was just canceled and you want to write an email asking for a refund. The new feature can grab flight details from the airline cancelation email and compose a draft email for you. If you think it is too small, there is an option to “Elaborate” to make it more compelling, or you can even click on “Recreate” for a completely new email. The feature will start rolling out as a part o...
